Looking ahead to Day 12

Another fantastic day of action at Paris 2024 has come to a close, and we want to thank you for joining us again on the official live blog.

Let's leave you today with words from your women's 200m Olympic champion,Gabby Thomas.

"I’m really in disbelief because having an Olympic gold medal is something in my wildest dreams," she said. "But at the same time, I know how hard I’ve fought for it.

"This has been six years in the making, head down, working hard, going to really hard meets, pushing yourself, and now it’s here and I’ve done it. This is the happiest moment of my life."

Paris 2024 athletics: All results, as the USA’s Gabby Thomas claims stunning Olympic 200m gold

Here's what to look forward to on Day 12, 7 August, with 23 gold medal events taking place.

The new mixed marathon race walk relay takes place in the morning (7:30am), replacing the men's 50km race walk. Teams of one man and one woman will take on two legs of varying lengths, eventually covering a distance of 42.195km, while never running. And the first ever mixed two-person dinghymedals are due to be awarded in sailing.

In the evening, there are also semi-finals in themen's 200m(from 8:02pm) asLylesaims to continue his medal hunt.

Still stuck for ideas on what to watch? Here are a few events you could pay attention to today:

Athletics (track and field) - Will Kennedy and Moon be separated in Paris?

The last timeNina KennedyandKatie Moonwent head-to-head in a major championships, nothing could separate them.

At the Budapest 2023 World Championships, the Aussie and U.S. pole vaulterstied for gold– calling to mind a similar situation betweenGianmarco TamberiandMutaz Barshimin the men's high jump at Tokyo 2020. Now, they will renew their friendship and rivalry in thewomen's pole vault final(7pm).

Moon is the defending Olympic champion in addition to her world titles from 2022 and 2023, making her an easy favourite in Paris. But she doesn't own the world lead this year: Great Britain'sMolly Caudery does, at 4.92m – yet Caudery won't be in the final, having shockingly not registered a mark in qualifying, while 20 women made the final.

Cycling (track) - Australia look to lower world record again

There is a remarkable stat in themen's team pursuittrack cycling race: the world record in the event has been broken at each of the last six Olympic Games, going back to Sydney 2000. Atlanta 1996 was the last time the world record didn't fall in the Olympic Games men's team pursuit.

It has fallen again in Paris, asAustralia – who have not won this event since Athens 2004 – smashed the mark in the first round by beating previous holders Italy.

They will face previous Olympic champions Great Britain in the final, while Italy try to regain their world record in the bronze-medal race.

Athletics: Ingebrigtsen on Kerr - "I guess he did show up!"

All the talk before tonight's men's 1500m final was on the rivalry betweenJakob Ingebrigtsen andJosh Kerr, with Ingebrigtsen saying in the build-up that Kerr had to show up.

Show up he did, as Kerr took silver while Ingebrigtsen finished fourth.

The Norwegian has now posted on social media congratulating his rivals.

"My team always say that “because you have a big mouth and is the one to beat, you have everything to lose in competitions”. Today, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse and Josh Kerr outsmarted me," he wrote.

"They were “the best guys” when it really mattered. And I want to congratulate them all on a great performance!"

Boxing: Kellie Harrington (IRL) retains women's 60kg gold

Third and final round. "Kellie, Kellie" strikes up again from the crowd.

What can Yang find?

Not a lot. Harrington goes in with a right. Yang responds with one of her own.

A couple of attempted body shots as Harrington dodges out of the way.

The Irishwoman knows she doesn't have to do anything silly from here – no mistakes to open the gate for Yang.

A left hook from the Chinese pugilist. Yang tries again and gets a right in, then dodges one from Harrington.

Both women are clearly tiring now.

10 seconds. The crowd roars. A couple more shots from the Irishwoman as the time runs out and the bell goes.

She pumps both arms in the air. Harrington thinks – knows? – she's done enough.

Yang looks out of breath. Harrington pumps up the Irish fans in the crowd.

By a 4-1 split decision,Kellie Harrington wins gold!

Court Philippe Chatrier roars. Harrington and Yang hug, Harrington congratulates the Chinese corner, then runs into an embrace in her own corner.

The Irishwoman is in tears in the centre of the ring. She then picks herself up, thanks the crowd, and dances a jig with her coach.

Harrington is the first female Irish athlete to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Games.

Football: Brazil through to face USWNT in women's final

All over in Marseille, where Brazil have absolutely dominated the world champions, even without Marta on the pitch.

Adriana made it 3-0 to Brazil earlier before a Duda Sampaio own goal on 85 minutes appeared to give the Spaniards a chance.

But Kerolin scored in the first minute of stoppage time to restore Brazil's three-goal lead, and even a late Salma Paralluelo consolation goal wasn't enough to get Spain back in it.

4-2 the final score and Brazil play the USA in the final.

Athletics: Reaction from men's 1500m final

We've been hearing from the gold and silver medallists,Cole Hocker of USA andJosh Kerr of Great Britain.

"That’s an unbelievable feeling. I just felt like I was getting carried by the stadium and God. My body just kind of did it for me. My mind was all there and I saw that finish line," Hocker said.

"Winning gold was my goal this entire year. I wrote that down and I repeated it to myself even if I didn’t believe it. My performances showed me that I was capable of running 3:27, whatever it took. I knew I was a medal contender, and I knew that if I get it right, it would be a gold medal. I’ve been saying that."

As for Kerr, he can be satisfied with silver.

"I just had to wait, I was gonna wait for 120 to go, did that and got pushed out obviously into lane two or three and that was the story on the inside.

"So look, fastest run ever in British history, fastest run, best 1500 m performance I've put together so can't walk away with anything but being proud.

"You know, I won all my battles today. I just didn't quite get the medal I was looking for, but it's progress, bronze to silver."

And what ofJakob Ingebrigtsen, the defending champion who finished fourth?

"I opened with a 54-second lap. That wasn’t the plan at all, it was at least two seconds too fast," he admitted. "I was thinking about slowing down, but the next lap was almost the same speed. I ruined it for myself by going way too hard."
